Steel Customers Order Online Through Timken Direct

CANTON, Ohio - The Timken Corporation today unveiled an online ordering
system for steel tubing products on Timken Direct, the company's customer-
focused extranet. Registered customers can now order directly online from the
Timken Fast-Track Tubing product warehouses in Ohio and North Carolina.

"Online ordering is another step in making the company more accessible to
customers in a Web environment," said Daniel E. Muller, director - e-business.
"Timken Direct has successfully proven its ability to enhance customer
efficiency and productivity over the past 15 months. Web-based ordering will
further accomplish that objective."

The Fast-Track warehouse offers an immediate solution to customer tubing
needs. The inventory of high-quality bearing steels is available in a wide
variety of sizes and profiles for quick shipment.

Launched in March 1999, Timken Direct offers real-time access to Timken
24-hours a day, seven days a week. Functions for bearing distributors include
product availability, price and order placement. Alloy steel customers can
track order status for bar and tube products, and also view available
inventory within the Fast-Track tubing warehouse. Specialty steel distributors
can monitor inventory and order status. The site is available to registered
customers through any Internet Web browser.

In addition to Timken Direct, the company also sells a selection of alloy
and carbon steel bar products on MetalSite.net, the industry-leading online
metals exchange.

The Timken Company is a leading international manufacturer of highly
engineered bearings and alloy steels with operations in 24 countries. The
company employs about 21,000 people worldwide and reported 1999 sales of U.S.
