Mitsubishi Motors Reports Best July Sales in History

Hot Sales Pace Driven by Strong Appeal of SUVs And Continued Strength of Galant SedanCYPRESS, Calif. - Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. today reported its best-ever July sales with 30,005 total vehicles, up 28.5% over July 1999. It is also the second best month in Mitsubishi Motor's 18-year history, coming in just under last month's record of 32,321. Strong sales were driven in July by the all-new 2001 Montero luxury SUV and the Montero Sport compact SUV, along with continued strength of the Galant mid-sized family sedan. This sales volume keeps Mitsubishi Motors well on target to top the 300,000 mark for the year. Product sales numbers of note: -- Best-ever July for total Montero sales, with 3,123 vehicles sold, up 674.9% over July 1999. -- Best-ever July for total Montero Sport sales, with 5,563 vehicles sold, up 56.3% over July 1999. -- Best-ever July for Galant Sedan sales, with 9,079 vehicles sold, up 12.5% over July 1999. -- Best-ever July for Mirage Sedan sales, with 3,738 vehicles sold, up 28.5% over July 1999. "Mitsubishi's best-ever July is fueling a record year, in spite of a softening consumer market," said Pierre Gagnon, MMSA executive vice president and chief operating officer. "We are very optimistic that our exceptional first half sales pace will continue thanks to our best-ever product lineup and the outstanding support of our retail partners."
