IPS Announces New Customer For Autoglass Inspection System

MARKHAM, Ontario - Image Processing Systems Inc. , a leading developer and global supplier of e-Vision (electronic vision) technology, today announced a new order for its AGI 9800 Autoglass Inspection System from one of the world's largest automotive glass manufacturers. The system will be used for final inspection of curved side glass and sunroofs. With this latest order, scheduled for delivery in the current fiscal year to a manufacturing facility located in Europe, IPS now has "seed" orders from three of the top five automotive glass manufacturers, representing nearly sixty per cent of the worldwide market.

"Orders for our autoglass inspection system are particularly gratifying on two fronts: they substantiate our diversification strategy and they further confirm the value we are building with our continued investment in R&D," comments Ken Wawrew, IPS President and CEO. "Our advanced Automated Glass Inspection (AGI) technology enables manufactures to meet or exceed auto makers' growing quality demands, such as lower part-per-million defect rates and reduced costs."

"The automotive glass industry represents a mostly untapped market for IPS, with the top five manufacturers representing almost 90% of the world's supply," continues Mr. Wawrew. "The typical applications for our systems include the manufacture of windshields, side and rear windows and sunroofs. This industry is comprised of more than 130 factories and approximately 1,100 production lines worldwide, with each line representing a potential to IPS of up to three inspection systems."

The AGI 9800 Autoglass Inspection System is a fully automated, turnkey system that detects and measures glass defects such as scratches, pits, bubbles, stones, and inclusions. The system can also provide hole, paint band and trade logo inspection. The AGI 9800 series incorporates a unique combination of illumination and optics (patents pending), high-resolution CCD cameras and proprietary image processing and analysis software. The AGI 9800's modular system architecture can be configured to accommodate a variety of inspection and process control applications. By providing this enabling technology, IPS is helping its manufacturers to increase their competitiveness through yield and quality improvement.

As previously announced, a conference call will be held on Wednesday, August 9th at 12:00 p.m. EST with Ken Wawrew and George Tepelenas, Chief Financial Officer, to discuss the most recent quarterly results and the current status of the new CRT and Autoglass product lines.
