Joseph Lyons Named President of SPX's Lindberg Unit

    MUSKEGON, Mich. - SPX Corporation today announced that it has named Joseph 
Lyons as President of its Lindberg business unit, located in Watertown, 
Wisconsin.

    Mr. Lyons joins SPX from Barnstead Thermolyne Co. where he was President
and Chief Executive Officer.  Mr. Lyons has over 20 years of leadership
experience in the laboratory equipment, process heat treatment and
environmental control industries.  His experience includes positions with Life
Sources International PLC, La Calhene, Inc. and Varlen Corp.  A graduate of
Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, Mr. Lyons holds a BBA in
Marketing.

    Lindberg is a world leader in the design and manufacture of industrial
furnaces, ovens and environmental chambers.  Lindberg and its well-known
