CASCAR: Lee wins Final Qualifiers' race; Grid set for Mopar 300
30 July 2000
CALGARY, AB - The Final Qualifiers' race for Sunday's Mopar Parts 300 CASCAR Castrol Super Series National race was held on Saturday night at Calgary's Race City Motorsport Park. Hometown favourite Wade Lee bounced back from the ignition wire troubles that knocked him from the lead of his 100 lap sprint race on Friday night to take the victory by almost two seconds over Williams Lake, BC racer Trevor Seibert. Saskatoon, SK resident Charlie Kirton completed the podium finishers. Sunday's Mopar Parts 300 will be the second National event of the 2000 CASCAR racing season and will see 31 cars in competition on the high-banked Race City half-mile oval. Going into the race, defending Eastern champion Don Thomson Jr. holds a miniscule one point lead over Edmonton's Kevin Dowler in what is shaping up to be a hotly contested National championship. National champion Peter Gibbons and St. Albert, AB's Carl Harr are lurking within striking distance. The CASCAR driver autograph session starts at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday. The green flag is scheduled to start the 300 lap Mopar Parts 300 at 1:00 p.m. by Inside Track Communications.
