BorgWarner Cooling Systems Facility Achieves QS-9000 Certification and Caterpillar Certified Supplier Award
GAINESVILLE, Ga. - BorgWarner Cooling Systems announces QS-9000 certification for its Gainesville facility. The production plant, which manufactures cooling fans for gas and diesel engines, has also been recognized with a Caterpillar Certified Supplier Award."We are constantly striving to improve our operations efficiency and production quality," said Phil Pullen, Quality Systems Manager of BorgWarner Cooling Systems Gainesville facility. "This recognition reinforces our commitment to producing the highest quality components for our customers."
QS-9000 represents a worldwide common supplier quality standard for the automotive industry, including major passenger car and heavy duty truck manufacturers. QS-9000 encompasses the ISO 9001 standards set forth in 1994 and includes additional requirements specific to the automotive industry.
The certification process involved an extensive audit of the company's overall quality systems by an independent auditing firm. Retention of the certification will require successful completion of semi-annual audits by the same auditor.
The Caterpillar Certified Supplier Award is given to manufacturers who adhere to stringent production and quality guidelines set forth by Caterpillar. BorgWarner Cooling System's Gainesville facility received the award following a thorough audit in March 2000.
The production plant has also been recognized as International/Navistar Certified Supplier, Chrysler Gold Pentastar and Ford Customer Service Division Preferred Supplier.
The Gainesville facility produces polymer and metal fans for heavy duty trucks, medium trucks, light trucks, off-highway, agriculture, construction and military applications. Polymer fans were first produced in 1980, and demand for the product has steadily increased over the past two decades. The company began producing metal fans in 1918. BorgWarner Cooling System's total fan production exceeded 2.5 million in 1999.
In addition to fans, BorgWarner manufactures and markets air sensing and coolant sensing fan drives, as well as radiator shutters to control the flow of air to the cooling system.
Chicago-based BorgWarner Inc. is a product leader in highly engineered components and systems for vehicle powertrain applications worldwide.
