Major North American Automaker Awards Body Control Module Business to Motorola AIEG for New SUV

27 July 2000

Deal will generate lifetime sales of $17 million

NORTHBROOK, Ill. - With the market for Sport Utility Vehicles continuing to
soar, Motorola's Automotive Industrial and Electronics Group, a business unit of
the company's Integrated Electronic Systems Sector, continues to make its mark
as the electronics supplier of choice. The most recent Motorola AIEG commitment
comes from a major North American automotive manufacturer for the body control
module to be used on a new SUV platform.

The controller integrates remote lock control and in-vehicle
communications capabilities with interior and exterior lighting, warning
lights and chimes and rear defogger. The vehicle is projected to launch in
model year 2002. The lifetime revenue of the program for Motorola is
projected at $17 million.

"The SUV market continues to be one of the fastest growing segments in the
automotive industry," said Dave Melka, senior vice president and general
manager of Motorola AIEG. "It's a competitive market and one where OEMs are
showcasing some of their most important vehicles. They're looking for the
best systems and the best partners to ensure the quality of these vehicles.
We are especially pleased when our technology, dedication to quality and
customer focus can help our customers succeed."

Body control modules are microprocessor-based controllers that can oversee
the operation of varied vehicle systems, including door locks, horn, lighting
and windshield wiper systems. This module, which is multiplexed and
communicates on a data bus to other modules like the engine controller,
represents the Motorola DigitalDNA(TM) technology that makes electronic
systems smarter, faster and more reliable. Like all Motorola body modules,
this product is designed to withstand the harsh passenger compartment
environment.

In addition to its superior performance characteristics, body control
modules help automotive OEMs lower production costs by reducing the amount of
harness wiring and connections required.
