This year's Brickyard 400 race marks the first appearance of Goodyear's new-generation Eagle Racing Radials on the famed 2.5-mile oval. GOODYEAR QUOTE: Tony Freund, lead engineer, stock car tire development: "We've seen excellent tire performance at both Pocono races this summer with the same new-generation Eagles that are being supplied for the Brickyard 400 for the first time. While the tire is classified as a short track radial, it also is suitable for the long, but fairly flat Indy and Pocono tracks. Additionally, it will be used at Homestead later this year. "These tires were tested at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in June 2000 by Bobby Labonte, in an advanced concept test car, and by Dale Jarrett, as our primary tester. From that test we saw a considerable improvement in tire wear and lap consistency, which was further verified by the excellent race performance at Pocono. On the Brickyard 400: "We expect to see pit strategy playing heavily in the outcome as teams utilize two-tire pit stops to gain track position. as history indicates in past races at Indy and Pocono." - 0 -
