Delphi Automotive Systems Provides New Security Features For 2001 Harley-Davidson Motorcycles

TROY, Mich. - Delphi Automotive Systems will supply two versions of a new
electronic Turn Signal/Security Module for the line of 2001 model year Harley-
Davidson Motor Company motorcycles. The microprocessor-based systems will be
introduced as original equipment in a base model version and a full-function
version. The full-function TSSM will also be sold as an aftermarket product.

"The introduction of the new TSSM is another step in our partnership with
Harley-Davidson," said Chuck Meier, general director of North America Region
Marketing & Sales for Delphi Delco Electronics Systems. "Our experience and
expertise in security and immobilization technologies allows us to provide
these unique products that add new features and functions for Harley-Davidson
customers."

A base model of the module provides turn-signal lamp control features, as
well as, vehicle shutdown operations after reaching a certain bank angle. The
TSSM uses a silicon-based accelerometer and other sensing devices to determine
the bank angle, speed and acceleration of the motorcycle. In addition to
canceling turn signals when turn maneuvers are complete, the system has a
communications link to other electronic modules on the bike and utilizes
diagnostic messages to aid in trouble shooting system problems using off-board
diagnostics tools.

The full-function model provides all of the features of the base model
plus a variety of security and immobilization functions that are designed to
reduce the risk of tampering and/or theft of the bike. It includes key fob
transmitters to allow remote arming and disarming of the security system. The
full-function TSSM interfaces with the vehicle turn signal lamps for
notification of arming and disarming. The module disables the starter motor
and fuel control system to disable the bike if it is tampered with. The
system can be upgraded with optional devices such as a siren or a pager to
alert the owner of security violations. In addition to the 2001 models, the
full function system will be sold through Harley-Davidson's Parts and
Accessories for vehicle retrofits and upgrades with various models to
accommodate the different product standards of countries in Europe, Asia and
North America.

"The features and functions of the new TSSM serve as great product
differentiators that help our customer position and distinguish their
products," said Meier. "Ultimately, the TSSM adds significant value to the
owners of Harley-Davidson motorcycles who are very discriminating consumers."
