AMA: Hacker on the move at Eldora

26 July 2000

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Eldora Speedway's banked half-mile is set to test

the talents of the racers of the AMA Progressive Insurance U.S. Flat Track

Championships, including the hard-charging Mike Hacker, July 29, in Rossburg,

Ohio.

Hacker, riding for Saddlemen/Lancaster Harley-Davidson has been on fire

lately, logging two podium spots in the last two races including his first-ever

Grand National win this past weekend at the Charlotte, N.C., half-mile.

That win vaulted Hacker, of Prince George, Va., from seventh to third in

the championship points battle and moved him to within 21 points of the leader,

Chris Carr.

Carr, the defending champion from Fleetwood, Pa., ran into trouble at

Charlotte when he went down on lap 22 and was relegated to last place for the

restart. Still, he managed to move up to 12th place during the remaining five

laps, adding to his championship points lead. Moroney's Harley-Davidson rider

Will Davis hung on to second in the points, with 102, despite bowing out of

Charlotte due to injuries sustained during a softball game, and he remains just

8 points behind Chris Carr.

Also on tap at Eldora is round four of the SuperTrapp SuperTrackers Series,

where Mike Hacker is once again the man to watch. Hacker has two wins and a

second place finish for 65 points and the series lead. Just 4 points behind

Hacker is defending champion Joe Kopp. Kopp has two second place finishes and a

win, keeping the pressure on Hacker. Team Powell's J. R. Schnabel holds down

third place,16-points behind Kopp. Schnabel, of West Bend, Wis., has been

consistent, finishing in fourth-place at all SuperTracker events thus far.

While at the Eldora half-mile be sure to stop by the Progressive Insurance
