Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and 
Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 352,112 units, up from the 123,166 cars 
and trucks built last week when several manufacturers were closed for summer 
shutdowns and model year changeovers, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 10,260,007 vehicles, up 5.3 percent from like-1999's pace.

    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 266,331 vehicles this
week, an increase of 253.3 percent from the 75,379 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
7,471,707 units, up 4.2 percent from the 7,173,098 vehicles built in like-
1999.

    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 47,970, a 320.0
percent increase from the 11,421 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,741,001 units, up
3.0 percent from the 1,690,686 vehicles produced in like-1999.

    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.8 percent; Ford Motor Co., 30.6 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 12.2 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.2
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.6 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.0
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.6 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.5 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.9 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.1 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.6 percent; and
other manufacturers, 2.3 percent.
