Oswald to Retire from Bosch; Liedtke Named SuccessorFARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Robert Bosch GmbH announced today that Robert S. Oswald, member of the Board of Management, and chairman, president and CEO of its North American subsidiary Robert Bosch Corporation, will retire on December 31, 2000. Oswald (59), who has been with Bosch since 1989, will continue to be associated with the company in a consultant capacity through the middle of next year. Dr. Kurt Liedtke (57), currently managing director of Robert Bosch (Australia) Pty Ltd. will succeed Oswald. Liedtke has been elected as an associate member of the Board of Management of Robert Bosch GmbH, effective January 1, 2001. Oswald was appointed to the Bosch Board of Management in 1996. Prior to his appointment, he served as president and chief operating officer of Robert Bosch Corporation. During his 41-year career in the automotive industry, Oswald has held a series of manufacturing, engineering and general management positions. With an engineering degree from Kettering University and a MBA from Michigan State University, Oswald worked for General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Cummins Engine Company before joining Bosch. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and serves on the board of trustees at Kettering University and the board of directors of Perceptron Corporation. "I have been fortunate during my career to work for great companies and to experience the dramatic technical and business changes that have occurred in the automotive industry," said Oswald. "It is very gratifying to me to have been a part of the tremendous growth Bosch has achieved over the past decade, especially here in North America." Liedtke has been with Bosch since 1977 and has served as chairman and managing director of Robert Bosch (Australia) Ltd. since 1996. Previously, Liedtke served as managing director of Robert Bosch Limited in the U.K. He has also held management positions with Bosch operations in Spain. Prior to Bosch, Liedtke worked as an attorney in a German law firm, specializing in business and tax law, and as a corporate lawyer in the power supply industry. Liedtke studied law and economics at the universities of Frankfurt, Germany; Lausanne, Switzerland and Cambridge, United Kingdom. "It is a great accomplishment to become CEO of Robert Bosch Corporation and to be appointed to the Bosch Board of Management," said Liedtke. "I am particularly excited to operate in Detroit, the international capital of the automotive industry, and to be in close proximity to our customers.
