Rankin Sells Business Unit

    HOUSTON - Rankin Automotive Group, Inc. today announced the sale of certain 
assets of its Allied Distributing Division.  The assets sold included customer 
lists and inventory specifically relating to sales to independent auto parts 
stores (known in the industry as 3-Step Distribution) in the state of Texas 
only.  The buyer, Star Automotive of Dallas, began servicing those independent 
auto parts stores beginning July 17, 2000.  The sale price was approximately 
$1.0 million.

    The Company continues to operate its distribution centers and service
Company stores through these centers.  Randall B. Rankin, CEO said, "This is
an important step in focusing the Company on its core competencies, which
include operating Company owned stores in metropolitan markets."

    Rankin sells automotive parts, products and accessories to commercial and
retail customers in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas
through its five distribution centers and 65 stores.
