Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and 
Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 121,344 units, up from the 74,363 cars 
and trucks built last week when most manufacturers were closed for summer 
shutdowns and model year changeovers, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 9,906,860 vehicles, up 4.7 percent from like-1999's pace.

    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 78,657 vehicles this week,
an increase of 196.0 percent from the 26,576 cars and trucks built last week.
To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 7,209,474
units, up 3.5 percent from the 6,964,693 vehicles built in like-1999.

    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 11,524, a 7.6
percent decrease from the 12,475 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,693,054 units, up
2.6 percent from the 1,649,657 vehicles produced in like-1999.

    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 0.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 0.0 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 28.2 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 17.7
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 16.4 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 9.8
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 8.5 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 0.0 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 6.5 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 1.9 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 2.1 percent; and
other manufacturers, 8.9 percent.
