Con-Way NOW Expands Air Express Coverage
14 July 2000
Service Now Offered to 176 Additional Cities
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Con-Way NOW, a freight carrier specializing in emergency and express service, has expanded its air express operations with the addition of 176 destination cities effective July 18."We began the air operations in March and the demand has been very strong. Our regular customer base began immediate and steady use of the service," said Ed Conaway, vice president and general manger of Con-Way NOW. "The addition of 176 new cities reflects the points our customers have told us they want service to," he added.
The company's air service moves emergency shipments between points within the continental United States and Canada. Air shipment options include: counter-to-counter, next-flight-out on regularly scheduled commercial airlines, and arrangement of charter flights to move unique shipments to hard-to-reach destinations.
In March the company started air operations with service to 24 cities in the U.S. "Initially we provided coverage to most major urban markets. This expansion will complete our major market coverage and also include many secondary markets," said Myles Nichols, manager air services, for Con-Way NOW. "It's an exciting business and our growth has exceeded expectations," added Nichols. According to Nichols, most shipments have moved between major markets. "The bulk of the activity is where you'd expect it. But the challenge of moving customer shipments into smaller markets is really exciting. Arranging a charter between Watertown, South Dakota and Winnipeg, Manitoba makes for a fun day. And getting it there on-time is what we love to do," said Nichols.
