CART Coming to Texas Motor Speedway In 2001
FORT WORTH-DALLAS, Texas, July 11 Texas Motor Speedway
will be the only speedway to host every major American racing series with the
addition of a Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) race in 2001.
The announcement was made today by Texas Motor Speedway General Manager
Eddie Gossage, interim CART President and Chief Executive Officer Bobby Rahal,
and 1996 FedEx Championship Series Champion Jimmy Vasser at The Movie Studios
at Las Colinas in Irving, Texas.
"This is a great addition to our schedule," said Gossage. "The addition
of CART to our schedule will make 2001 the single-greatest racing season ever
for any speedway. To have the distinction as the only speedway to host all
major racing series is really quite remarkable."
The Texas 600k will be held on Sunday, May 6, and will be televised on
ABC. CART is expected to announce its complete 2001 schedule in the near
future.
"Fort Worth-Dallas is a key market for us," said Rahal. "The teams and
sponsors are excited about being here. It's a first class facility and we'll
put on a great show for the fans."
In addition to the CART FedEx Championship Series event, the speedway
hosts NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Grand National Series races in early
spring, as well as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and Indy Racing Northern
Light Series for two race weekends each year, once in early summer and again
in the fall. This year the speedway added the American Le Mans and BFGoodrich
Trans-Am Series as part of the Grand Prix of Texas held on the new infield
road course. Fans also saw great racing from the Pennzoil World of Outlaws
sprint cars, Hav-A-Tampa dirt late models and the Wrenchead.com National Dirt
Track Series motorcycles on the new Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.
