11 July 2000

Potentially Deadly Consequences: California Unlicensed Driver Information to be Released by Auto Club

    --

WHO: A new study by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows
that when drivers' licenses are suspended or revoked,
drivers continue to drive -- with potentially deadly
consequences. The Automobile Club of Southern California,
the largest AAA affiliate, will release
            California-specific information on unlicensed California
            drivers.

WHAT: The study titled "Unlicensed to Kill," examined five years
of traffic data from 1993 through 1997.

WHEN: Wednesday, July 12
The Auto Club news release containing California data will
be distributed via Business Wire at 8 a.m. Pacific time.
Members of the media who do not have access to Business
Wire can call the Auto Club's media line at 714/885-2333
to request a copy of the news release.

WHY: To urge action on this important problem that is
endangering the safety of all motorists.
