AK Steel Names Three to New Posts    

    MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - AK Steel has named Walter Beringer general manager, 
operations of its Coshocton Works.  Mr. Beringer joined the company's Middletown
Works in 1979 as an assistant metallurgist and was named metallurgist in 1983.  
Following his return to school to earn a Master of Business Administration 
degree, Mr. Beringer rejoined the company in 1987 and held a number of plant 
operations management positions.  In 1992 he was named general manager of 
quality and earlier this year he was named director, research.  Mr. Beringer 
replaces Jay Parr, who is retiring.

    Ron Kinnett has been named director of research, replacing Mr. Beringer.
Mr. Kinnett joined the company in 1965, progressing through numerous positions
in research involving carbon, stainless and electrical steels.  He was named
quality control manager, Middletown Works in 1991 and manager, hot strip mill
of the plant in 1993.  Mr. Kinnett returned to research in 1995 before being
named general manager, quality in 1997.

    Kirk Reich was named general manager, operations, Mansfield Works.  He
replaces Robert Pasquarelli, who has taken a position with an international
metals producer.  Mr. Reich joined AK Steel's Middletown Works in 1989 in the
engineering department.  He advanced to process engineer in 1994 and
progressed to manager, processing and annealing.  In 1999 he was named
manager, cold mill, temper mill and annealing of the company's Rockport Works.

    Mr. Beringer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical
engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree from The Ohio State
University.  Mr. Kinnett holds an Associates Degree in chemical engineering
from the University of Cincinnati.  Mr. Reich holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in civil engineering from The Ohio State University.

    AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel
products for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets, as
well as standard pipe and tubular steel products.  AK Steel is headquartered
in Middletown, Ohio.  It employs about 11,000 men and women in plants and
offices in Middletown, Coshocton, Mansfield, Warren and Zanesville, Ohio;
Ashland, Kentucky; Rockport, Indiana; and Butler, Sharon and Wheatland,
Pennsylvania.  AK Steel also produces snow and ice control products, and
operates a major industrial park on the Houston, Texas ship channel.
