Nicky Hayden wins AMA Superbike race at Laguna Seca

9 July 2000

Laguna Seca Raceway, Monterey, California - July 8, 2000

2000 AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championship, Round 7

Eighteen-year-old Team Honda racer Nicky Hayden rode like an old pro on his
RC51, staving off a series of desperate attempts by Mat Mladin to win the
AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Superbike Championship race at Laguna Seca Raceway. The
victory marked the third Superbike win for Hayden both for this season as well
as in his short professional career. Australia's Mladin rode to second, followed
by Aaron Yates. Mladin's series points lead has shrunk to nine, 241-232. Team
Honda's Miguel Duhamel struggled with a leaking radiator cap. With hot coolant
splashing the windscreen and his body, Duhamel soldiered on and scored valuable
points by finishing eighth.
