Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and 
Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 74,729 units, down considerably from 
the 331,376 cars and trucks built last week due to many manufacturers' summer 
shutdowns and model year changeovers, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 9,777,562 vehicles, up 4.4 percent from like-1999's pace.

    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 29,773 vehicles this week,
a decrease of 87.5 percent from the 237,586 cars and trucks built last week.
To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 7,130,254
units, up 3.3 percent from the 6,902,945 vehicles built in like-1999.

    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 13,815, a 74.4
percent decrease from the 54,038 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,682,748 units, up
2.7 percent from the 1,638,655 vehicles produced in like-1999.

    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 0.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 0.0 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 42.5 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 0.0
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 25.7 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 0.0
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 0.0 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 0.0 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 8.4 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.0 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.0 percent; and
other manufacturers, 23.7 percent.
