National Snowmobile Ban to be Reviewed At Senate Field Hearing in Grand Rapids, Minn.
--International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association:WHAT: A U.S. Senate Field Hearing on forestry issues, including
recreational vehicle access to public lands. The hearing is
expected to include discussion of the federal government's
recent ban on snowmobiles in national parks.
WHO: The Field Hearing will be chaired by Sen. Craig (R-ID). Sen.
Wellstone (D-MN), Sen. Grams (R-MN), Rep. Oberstar (D-MN) and
Rep. Peterson (D-MN) also will attend the hearing.
Bob Linn, president of the Minnesota United Snowmobilers
Association will testify at the hearing and snowmobilers from
across Minnesota will be on hand to voice their concerns
regarding access to public lands.
WHY: In May, the National Park Service announced a ban on
snowmobiles in most national parks. The move sparked
controversy because snowmobilers have been allowed in national
parks for more than 30 years and are limited to using the same
paved roads that millions of cars, trucks and RVs use during
the summertime.
