Budd Appoints Two Vice Presidents; CFO Denny W. Benson Retires

    TROY, Mich. - The Budd Company, a leading automotive supplier, today 
announced the appointment of two vice presidents and the retirement of the 
company's chief financial officer.

    THOMAS BARDSLEY, 57, was elected Vice President - Finance.

    BRUCE M. DINGWALL, 53, was elected Vice President - Controller.

    In addition, DENNY W. BENSON, 61, Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer, retired after 28 years of service.

    Bardsley, a 22-year veteran of Budd, most recently served as company
controller.  He joined Budd as manager, general accounting and, in 1984, was
promoted to assistant comptroller.  Bardsley holds a B.A. degree from Western
Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., and a M.B.A. degree from Wayne State
University in Detroit.  He and his wife reside in Rochester, MI.

    Dingwall has served as assistant comptroller since 1997.  He joined Budd
in 1984 as supervisor, financial reporting.  In 1985, he was named manager,
general accounting.  Dingwall earned a B.A. degree in accounting from the
University of Michigan.  He resides with his wife and daughter in Northville,
MI.

    Benson joined Budd in 1972 as supervisor, general accounting.  He also
served as manager, forecasts and cost, assistant comptroller, comptroller,
vice president and comptroller and, since 1997, vice president and chief
financial officer.

    Budd, headquartered in Troy, Mich., produces components such as doors,
fenders, roofs, hoods, and decklids in sheet metal as well as in sheet molded
composite, and gray iron and ductile iron castings for about 100 current vehicle
models.  Budd also makes prototypes, chassis frames and subframes, bumpers and 
bumper reinforcements, cold weather starting and heating products, and air bag 
components for the automotive industry.

    Budd is part of Thyssen Krupp Automotive AG, a $5.5 billion supplier
providing body systems, chassis & suspension parts, powertrain components and
systems/suspension to the automotive industry worldwide.  Budd operates 39
facilities with more than 13,000 employees in North America.  In addition, the
company has offices in Stuttgart, Germany, and Tokyo, Japan.
