MatrixOne, Inc. Receives Order From Volke Entwicklungsring to Help Engineering Services
6 July 2000
eMatrix to Provide Collaboration and Information Backbone for Quick Reaction to Customer Requirements and to Enable Cost Savings Through Digital Mock Up
CHELMSFORD, Mass. - MatrixOne, Inc., a leading provider of Internet business collaboration solutions, today announced it has been awarded a contract by Volke Entwicklungsring GmbH, a leading provider of engineering services to the German automotive industry. Volke has a record of delivering turnkey projects to major German OEM automotive manufacturers that comprise all services from design to prototyping of vehicles.Under the terms of the contract, MatrixOne will provide its eMatrix(TM) software and services to support Volke's comprehensive engineering projects, to ensure online collaboration with its customers and to enable the design and validation of digital prototypes. The eMatrix solution will be used to manage project and product data for more than 400 engineers in Volke's engineering headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, to exchange data with customers and to enable digital mock up prototypes. In subsequent phases, Volke plans to use the MatrixOne solution as a collaboration platform for Volke's German engineering operations in Munich and Zwickau, and in the Czech Republic.
"Although engineering competence has always been a main asset for an engineering company like Volke, we realize that quick responses to customers' requirements and a smooth and predictable project flow are quickly growing in importance," says Guido Naujoks, Volke IT manager and project leader. "Through MatrixOne's eMatrix solution, we expect to improve collaboration both with the customer and inside our company. We expect this to quickly translate into tangible results, such as shorter time-to-market and considerable cost savings."
In addition to shorter lead times, a major cost savings potential stems from Volke's vision to rely on digital prototypes, also known as digital mock up. This technique brings together data from different engineering sources and applications and allows the assembly of fully digital prototypes that can be tested and optimized much like physical prototypes, but without having to rely on time-consuming and costly physical production and assembly. MatrixOne's eMatrix technology will provide the information backbone.
"MatrixOne has a proven history of providing the information backbone for digital mock up in the automotive industry. This discipline continues to be one of the areas of major cost savings potential since it eliminates much of the time-consuming prototype testing," says Klaus Eberlein, MatrixOne country sales manager Germany. "We are pleased that our products and services have been selected to bring together the aspects of collaboration and digital mock up in this strategically important project."
