Motorola Automotive and Industrial Electronics Group Named Supplier of the Year by General MotorsNORTHBROOK, Ill. - The Motorola Automotive and Industrial Electronics Group , a business unit of Motorola's Integrated Electronic Systems Sector, was recently awarded the 1999 GM Supplier of the Year Award for its contribution to General Motors' improvement efforts for quality, service, technology and price. AIEG received the annual award for its performance on powertrain control modules --electronic controllers that manage fuel consumption, emissions performance and responsiveness to driver demand. The award, given annually to GM's best global suppliers, was presented in Munich, Germany. "Our customers rely on us as the number one manufacturer of high- performance engine control systems in the world to provide them with the best technology in the most cost-efficient manner," said Dave Melka, senior vice president and president, Motorola AIEG. "Awards that recognize our commitment to meet customers' needs motivate our entire team to make that extra effort." Motorola AIEG researches, develops and manufactures electronics and electronic systems for original equipment manufacturers and all tiers of automotive system suppliers -- the DigitalDNA(TM) technology at the heart of the vehicle's electronic systems. The group's products include powertrain electronics and systems, chassis electronics, body electronics, sensors and power controls. AIEG's powertrain and powertrain systems division develops and manufactures hardware and software systems for passenger car, light truck, heavy vehicle and marine customers. Products include system solutions and engine, transmission and transfer case electronic controls for two- and four- stroke gasoline engines, diesel and alternative fuel engines, and hybrid electric vehicles. "This is the second year in a row that Motorola AIEG has been honored with this prestigious award from General Motors," said Tom Alger, Motorola AIEG corporate vice president, powertrain and powertrain systems division. "Our goal each year is to continue to offer value-added products and services for our customers. We work with each customer individually to develop programs and processes to meet their specific needs. For AIEG, added value is more than just great technology -- it's the service and the little extras that go along with it." The GM Supplier of the Year award began as a global program in 1992. Award winners are selected by a global team of executives from purchasing, engineering, manufacturing and logistics who base their decisions on supplier performance in quality, service, technology and price.
