Scott Parker to race at Springfield Hall of Fame Weekend

6 July 2000

Springfield, IL - The biggest weekend in Dirt Track history just got bigger. Scott Parker, the winningest rider in the history of AMA racing is coming out of retirement to race the September 1-2-3, 2000 Springfield Hall of Fame Weekend. In what could be race fans last chance to see the legendary Parker race, he has committed to race in all three National Championship events, the Friday night NATIONAL SHORT TRACK SHOOT-OUT, the Saturday DIRT TRACK HALL OF FAME NATIONAL and the Sunday SPRINGFIELD MILE NATIONAL.

"I am planning on winning all three races, "said Scott Parker, the nine-time AMA Grand National Champion. "When they brought back Springfield as a Regional in 1981, I won it and ever since then I have really liked Springfield," said Parker. "When someone hasn't seen one of our races asks me what race should I go to, I tell them Springfield is the place. It's the best track, it produces great racing and it has a lot of history."

Parker, 38 from Swartz Creek, MI, after 20 years, nine championships and 93 National wins retired from full time racing at the end of last season. "I don't seem to miss racing," said Parker. "It's sort of like I'm on vacation and I get to come to Springfield and have fun racing. Harley said they would provide equipment for a few races for me this year, so I will be riding the factory bikes at Springfield tuned by Bill Werner."

"I'm excited about coming to Springfield, I have won some Short Tracks so Friday will be fun, and then two days on the mile. I know the track and where you need to be to get the checkered flag. It's going to be great weekend," Parker said.

For the first time in AMA history race fans are in for an amazing Back to Back to Back, triple-header of Progressive Insurance AMA Grand National Championship Races on the same weekend at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Handle bar to handle bar, elbow banging action is back on Friday night when the Illinois Motorcycle Dealers Association will rekindle an old tradition. The AMA SPRINGFIELD SHORT TRACK SHOOT-OUT returns as a Grand National Championship race at a brand new multi-million dollar facility on the fairgrounds. Then Saturday, the focus shifts to the legendary one mile oval for the running of the richest race in dirt track, the $100,000 DIRT TRACK HALL OF FAME GRAND NATIONAL. On Sunday, the best in the business will again vie for AMA National points on the fastest track in the history of dirt track, at the race they call THE SPRINGFIELD MILE. Three days, three Nationals, incredible!!!!!
