Roadway Expands Expedited Coast-to-Coast Service

AKRON, Ohio - Cross-country shipping and delivery just got faster with Roadway Express, Inc. . The motor carrier has increased its expedited 2 to 3 day coast-to-coast service into the Southeast states of Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and parts of Alabama and North Carolina.

This expansion complements service already provided between the West Coast, Midwest and eastern seaboard states. "It was important to us to make this expedited service readily available to all of our customers around the country," said William Michael, vice president, marketing for Roadway. "We have tried to create this hybrid service, bringing together many favorable facets from air transportation, as well as the ground transportation for which we are known. Roadway's shippers like our ability to pick up their freight late in the day."

Since introducing the coast-to-coast expedited service in September 1999, shippers have been enjoying fast reliable service. It was originally introduced between seventeen states in the Ohio Valley and eastern seaboard to participating points in California, Oregon and Washington in the West and has also expanded to Nevada and Indiana, all of North Carolina, Montgomery, AL and Dothan, AL. This level of service was previously attained only through deferred air service.

Pickups are available Monday through Friday. Shipments can be made as late as 5:00 PM and still be included in the 2 to 3 Day transit. Instructions are simple. A customer need only apply a special 2 to 3 Day sticker or write the 2 to 3 Day statement on the bill of lading and the shipment is on its way. As with all of Roadway's services, one-stop, door-to-door service is a standard feature. In addition, customers can track the shipment through Roadway's tracking systems, ensuring on-time delivery within two to three days.

An added feature of the expedited offering is the weekend advantage. Shipments that are picked up on Thursday and Friday will be delivered Monday and Tuesday, respectively, providing two-day service at the same price as the three-day service.

"Our expanded three-day coverage is an extension of the specialized time-sensitive services that we are known for, including Time-Critical, Precision Delivery and Guaranteed Day Delivery," added Michael. "These products have a 99% on-time performance record, giving the customer's shipment the speed of air with the reliability of Roadway. Shippers can experience seamless coast-to-coast service in 2 to 3 days between thousands of service points."

Included on the Dow Jones Transportation Average, Roadway Express, Inc. is a leading transporter of industrial goods with a variety of innovative services designed to meet customer needs. Roadway, an ISO 9002 certified carrier, provides seamless service between all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico with export services to 66 countries and six continents.
