DaimlerChrysler Corporation Reports Six-Month U.S. Sales

Chrysler Group Shatters Seven Records
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - In the first six months of this year, Dodge and
Chrysler brands sold more cars and trucks than in any other six-month period in
their history, breaking seven sales records in the process. DaimlerChrysler
Corporation's Chrysler Group's (Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep) total sales for the
first six months of 2000 were 1,350,638 units down 3-percent compared to last
year's record, making this the second best six-month period ever.
For the month of June, sales of 215,597 Chrysler Group vehicles dipped
10-percent. However, spurred on by unprecedented demand for the Chrysler PT
Cruiser, an 80-percent increase in Chrysler Cirrus sales and a 9-percent rise
in Chrysler Town & Country sales, Chrysler brand sales of 40,055 jumped 50-
percent compared to the same month last year making this the sixth consecutive
monthly record for the Chrysler brand. Dodge also set two sales records in
June including a whopping 44-percent increase in Dakota sales and a new record
of 15,486 Durangos sold.
In the first six months of this year, Mercedes-Benz sales increased
12-percent to 100,399 units. June sales of 17,919 vehicles represent a
9-percent increase over last year.
"We've moved from blistering sales to robust sales," said Theodor
Cunningham, Executive Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing. "While the
industry is not running at the torrid pace of 1999, DaimlerChrysler is
maintaining its momentum."
In June, six sales records were broken including a 15-year-old record for
Chrysler brand total sales. Overall, SUV sales of 63,829 dropped 1-percent
compared to last year.
"Last year's May and June were nothing short of phenomenal," said
Cunningham. "When you use those months as benchmarks, our numbers are
slightly down. We are also living in an increasingly competitive marketplace
full of aggressive sales incentives and jump after jump in interest rates.
But overall, we are very much on target with our 2000 sales goals."
Six-month highlights:
Chrysler brands up 41-percent compared to last year on record sales of
236,554 units eclipsing a 1985 record
Chrysler Truck up 205-percent on records sales of 103,168 vehicles
Chrysler Town & Country up 38-percent on record sales of 46,769
minivans, breaking a four-year old record
Chrysler Cirrus up 67-percent on sales of 29,652 vehicles
PT Cruiser sales of 21,657 vehicles
Total SUV sales were 358,866 vehicles down 3-percent, making this the
second best six-month period compared to last year's all-time record
Dodge sales of 804,053 set an all-time record, up 1-percent from a year
ago
Dodge Dakota up 15-percent on record sales of 95,842 units
Dodge Stratus up 42-percent on record sales of 67,061 vehicles
Jeep brand sales of 250,835 units were down 8-percent making this the
second best six-month period ever
Jeep Grand Cherokee sales of 132,400 units are down 4-percent making this
the second best six-month period
June Sales Highlights:
Chrysler PT Cruiser sales of 7,965 units continue to reflect growth for
this newest nameplate
Chrysler Truck sales up 288-percent at 20,802, making this the eighth
consecutive monthly record
Chrysler Cirrus up 80-percent versus last year on sales of 5,435 units
Chrysler 300M record sales of 4,418 up 1-percent making this the second
record in three months
Plymouth Prowler sales up 47-percent making this the 10th consecutive
monthly record
Dodge Dakota up 44-percent on record sales of 18,214 units
Dodge Durango up slightly on record sales of 15,486 vehicles
Dodge Ram Wagon up 22-percent compared to last year on sales of 2,935
