Ward's Reports Estimated Production

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and 
Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 346,455 units, down from the 385,199 cars 
and trucks built last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

    Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 9,717,328 vehicles, up 4.8 percent from like-1999's pace.

    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 247,988 vehicles this
week, a decrease of 11.6 percent from the 280,575 cars and trucks built last
week.  To date, calendar 2000 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated
7,110,299 units, up 3.8 percent from the 6,849,300 vehicles built in like-
1999.

    This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 57,654, an 11.8
percent decrease from the 65,401 units assembled last week.  Estimated
calendar-2000 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,672,549 units, up
2.9 percent from the 1,625,123 vehicles produced in like-1999.

    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S.,
General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.8 percent; Ford Motor Co., 30.7 percent;
Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 13.9 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.4
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.2 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 0.0
percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.9 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.8 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.0 percent;
AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.3 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of
DaimlerChrysler, 0.7 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.6 percent; and
other manufacturers, 2.7 percent.
