Exide to Honor, Remember Korean War Veterans

30 June 2000

NASCAR Winston Cup Car to Carry Commemorative Insignia In New England 300 at New Hampshire International Raceway

READING, Pa. - To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Korean War, Exide
Corporation's NASCAR Winston Cup Series race car will display the United States
of America Korean War Commemorative Insignia during the upcoming New England 300
at New Hampshire International Raceway.

For the entire July 7-9 weekend in Loudon, NH, the 50th anniversary
insignia will be positioned on the hood of the #99 Exide/Roush Racing Ford
Taurus, driven by South Boston, VA native Jeff Burton.

"Exide is proud to honor the men and women who fought -- especially those
who made the ultimate sacrifice -- for their country during the Korean War,"
said Robert A. Lutz, Exide Chairman and Chief Executive.

The 50th anniversary commemorative period began Sunday, June 25 -- the day
the war broke out in 1950. It will last until Veterans Day, 2003. Over
1.7 million Americans served in the war, which lasted more than three years.
Nearly 37,000 gave their lives for America and the cause of freedom in Korea.
Over 8,100 Americans remain unaccounted for (unrecovered or unidentified).

"We regard this as a stellar example of corporate participation in the
commemoration," said Nels Running, retired US Air Force Major General and
Director of the Commemoration Committee. "We thank Exide for its energetic
support. We hope those who watch the race, be it in person or on television,
will take time to reflect on what this anniversary means for every American."

"I applaud what Exide is doing to help honor the Korean War Veterans and
their families," said Burton. "Here's hoping we can cap the weekend off with
a victory. What a better way to extend an honor than visiting victory lane
with the anniversary insignia being shown to all of America."

Exide Corporation, with annual revenues of approximately $2.2 billion and
operations in 23 countries, is the world's largest manufacturer of automotive
and industrial lead-acid batteries and a leader in electric storage solutions.
