Subaru Announces Pricing on 2001 Model Year Outback and Legacy
29 June 2000
CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Subaru of America, Inc., a pioneer of crossover all-wheel drive vehicles designed for the active lifestyle, announced today the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of the 2001 model year Outback and Legacy models. For '01, Subaru introduces two new flagship models, Outback H6-3.0 L.L.Bean Edition and Outback H6-3.0 VDC, offering luxurious appointments and enhanced levels of power and performance. The 2001 MY Outback H6-3.0 L.L.Bean Edition and Outback H6-3.0 VDC are both powered by an all-new 212 horsepower, DOHC 24 valve horizontally opposed, high output six-cylinder engine mated to the Subaru four-speed electronic automatic transmission (4EAT). The H6-3.0 powerplant features an aluminum block, four valves per cylinder and produces 30 percent more power and torque than the 2.5 liter H4. The new engine is compact, and designed to fit into the existing four-cylinder body structure without any major modifications. Both H6-3.0 powered Outback models also receive new design alloy wheels, a mahogany wood and leather steering wheel designed by Momo, automatic climate control, an eight-way driver's power seat and a convenient rear seat center arm rest. Other standard features include a leather-trimmed interior, ambient temperature gauge, dual mode digital trip odometer and dual power moonroofs. Outback H6-3.0 L.L.Bean Edition -- "Our new marketing partnership" This special edition Outback is the centerpiece of an exciting new marketing agreement with L.L.Bean, the premier leader of outdoor lifestyle clothing and equipment. The agreement creates the first-ever automobile partnership for L.L.Bean and the first outfitter relationship for Subaru of America. Outback L.L.Bean Edition features standard convenience items including a keyless entry and security system, an auto-dimming rearview compass mirror and a cabin air filtration system. Additionally, passengers are treated to a host of luxurious appointments including additional wood grain patterned door switch trim, L.L.Bean embroidered floor mats, L.L.Bean embossed front seats and two tone leather-trimmed seats, front and rear. Supplementing the new H6-3.0 boxer engine, Outback L.L.Bean Edition comes standard with the active all-wheel drive system currently used in other automatic transmission-equipped Subaru models. Subaru is pleased to have this model covered under an exclusive L.L.Bean Carefree Performance Protection package, providing a near hassle free ownership experience. Outback H6-3.0 VDC -- "The ultimate in AWD handling and control" Outback H6-3.0 VDC incorporates a new, intelligent Subaru All-Wheel Driving System. This system provides unparalleled traction and stability utilizing Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), working in conjunction with the Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) All-Wheel Drive. When oversteer or understeer threatens vehicle directional stability, the VDC system reacts automatically, calculating the desired direction and making adjustments to help the driver maintain control. Complementing the impressive list of features is the standard McIntosh premium audio sound system, providing a maximum power output of 200 watts through 11 speakers in 7 locations including a power amplifier. Developed exclusively for Subaru, it is the U.S. market's first factory vehicle installation of a McIntosh stereo system. Outback and Outback Limited The successful Subaru Outback continues to set the standard for car-based SUVs in the 2001 model year. Available in wagon and sedan variants, all 2001 model year Outback models benefit from a viscous limited slip rear differential and larger front 11.4-inch ventilated disc brakes with twin piston calipers. Outback models receive dual illuminated vanity mirrors and all wagon models receive a fixed intermittent rear window wiper. Beige as well as gray leather interior surfaces are now available on Outback Limited Sedan.
