BOLDER Technologies Forecasts Significantly Higher Sales for Balance of Fiscal YearGOLDEN, Colo. - BOLDER Technologies Corporation announced that as a result of the continuing ramp-up in the retail distribution base for the SecureStart Portable Jump Starter product, which now includes Sears, Target, Wal-Mart and Home Hardware, the largest hardware chain in Canada, it expects second quarter revenue to exceed three times the level achieved in the first quarter. "With the recent addition of Wal-Mart, we will have a distribution base of 6,900 retail outlets, and we expect to be in 10,000 outlets before the end of the year 2000," commented Roger F. Warren, chairman, president and CEO. Warren also stated, "With further customer additions, we expect to see very strong sales growth in the second half of 2000. We sold 28,000 SecureStart jump start units during the second half of 1999 with 1,800 retail outlets. With an expansion to more than 10,000 retail outlets for the fourth quarter of 2000, we would be disappointed if we did not achieve a corresponding increase in unit sales." SecureStart Portable Jump Starter is a small, lightweight, rechargeable device that can provide an instant engine start on a dead battery in a car, truck, tractor or boat. The SecureStart features a built-in flashlight and cable clamps for jump starting, weighs less than five pounds, can be easily stored in any vehicle and recharges in minutes. BOLDER Technologies Corporation, headquartered in Golden, Colorado, manufactures and markets advanced, high-power rechargeable batteries based on its patented Thin Metal Film technology. The Company is developing and commercializing consumer and OEM battery products with the TMF technology, including the SecureStart Portable Jump Starter, that use proven lead-acid electrochemistry in a proprietary configuration with a higher power density than any commercially available rechargeable battery. The TMF technology offers numerous advantages over existing batteries for current and future applications, including near-term opportunities in the marine and auto after markets for 12V primary starting batteries. BOLDER's TMF technology also has possible future applications in the pending auto industry conversion from 12V to 36V systems, both directly through vendor sales and indirectly through a license agreement with Johnson Controls. JCI uses the TMF technology for its Inspira battery system for 42V architectures and is highlighting the opportunity on its website.
