NASCAR WWEST: Woodside and REF Motorsports Look For Another Mesa Marin Win

June 27, 2000 (Palmdale, Calif.) - Sean Woodside and REF Motorsports were thrilled when their still-new partnership collected its first win for the 2000 season in Mesa Marin Raceway's March 27th Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring race. Based on past performances, this weekend's Firecracker 100 at the Bakersfield, Calif. ½-mile oval may prove a likely place for the team to make another visit to victory circle. Mesa Marin is one of Woodside's strongest tracks, as evidenced by three consecutive wins in the annual October Classic NASCAR Winston West event, as well as Bud Pole Awards in those events in 1997 and 1998. REF Motorsports finished in the top five in all three Southwest Series races at Mesa Marin in 1998. Although the team has struggled the past several races with qualifying setups, the accumulated finishing positions for the season have kept them consistently in the top five in a relatively close chase for the championship points. Woodside and REF are currently 4th in the Southwest Series point standings. The team took last weekend's 7th fastest qualifying position and a very strong run at Sears Point Raceway as evidence of an improving effort. "As we've gotten to know each other and spent time working together, we've begun communicating better," said Sean. "The team knows what I want in a car, and I'm more comfortable with providing them direction. Hopefully, everyone's hard work will translate into another win for REF Motorsports." Team owner Bob Farmer commented, "The team did a great job last weekend, and we were encouraged by how well practice and qualifying went, compared with the last several races. We should be in good shape for Mesa Marin." After Saturday night's race, Woodside will travel to compete in Portland Speedway's final NASCAR Winston West event, the July 4th NAPA Auto Parts 200, then will head home to join REF Motorsports in preparing for the July 16th Los Angeles Street Race.
