NOTES OF INTEREST: The inaugural Kentucky 150 will mark the first
appearance of the ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series in the state of Kentucky
since 1996 when Bobby Bowsher won at the Louisville Motor Speedway.
Notable entrants include 3-time ARCA champion Tim Steele. Steele is the
all-time ARCA superspeedway winner with 21 victories and the all-time
ARCA superspeedway lap-leader having led 2,095 laps in 40 races. Steele
is also the all-time ARCA superspeedway pole winner with 14. Also
entered is the ’98 ARCA champ Frank Kimmel from nearby Jeffersonville,
Indiana and Des Moines, Iowa driver Shawna Robinson. Robinson, in a
Kranefuss/Mayfield Kmart sponsored Ford Taurus, is trying to become the
first female driver in 48 years of ARCA competition to win in the
world’s most versatile stock car series. At present, Robinson is locked
in a tight ARCA Rookie of the Year battle with Plymouth, Indiana’s Brian
Ross. Other veterans entered include Mokena, Illinois driver Bob Strait
in Mark Thompson’s Midway Islands Ford Taurus and Auburn, Georgia’s Mark
Gibson who will make his 196th start at Kentucky Speedway, more than any
other active driver. Veteran and 19-time ARCA winner Bob Schacht is also
entered as is ’99 Daytona ARCA 200 winner Bobby Gerhart out of Lebanon,
Pennsylvania. Additional entrants include Joe Cooksey, Andy Belmont,
Norm Benning, Mike Swaim Jr, Kirk Shelmerdine, Matt Hutter, Cavin
Councilor, ’99 Prestone ARCA Rookie of the Year Ron Cox and 2nd
generation driver Billy Venturini.
