CASCAR: Turner wins his third CASCAR race of 2000

FREDERICTON, NB - The roller coaster ride that has been Al Turner's 2000
CASCAR Castrol Super Series East season took another upward swing on Sunday
afternoon at New Brunswick Int'l Speedway. The Barrie, ON racer captured
his third Super Series East checkered flag of the season, in the CARQUEST
200. The victory for the Blue Streak Intrepid racer comes on the heels of
two major crashes in his previous two outings.
	Turner started on the outside of the front row for the 200 lap race on the
tight, 1/3-mile oval, which is located just outside of Fredericton, NB.
Turner dogged polesitter Peter Gibbons for the first 160 laps before diving
to the inside as the lead duo entered the third turn on lap 161. Gibbons -
the defending CASCAR National champion - gave Turner the bottom lane,
conceding that he couldn't hang on to the lead for the remaining 40 laps.
	At the checkered flag, Turner was over 7.5 seconds ahead of Gibbons, who
batted through heavy traffic while holding off last year's Eastern Rookie
of the Year, Scott Steckly, to secure second place for the second week in a
row in his Canadian Tire Chevy.
	Steckly's effort earned him his first career podium finish in a CASCAR
feature. And for the second time in as many weeks, it was another career
best result for the AW Millwright Pontiac driver Steckly, who was fourth a
week earlier at Mosport Int'l Speedway.
	"This car was in terrible shape after the wreck last week at Mosport,"
said Turner in victory lane. "I'm proud of the team for getting it back in
shape and I'm proud of the way we won. When we won those two races at the
start of the season, we weren't necessarily the fastest car at the end.
Today we were."

Race Notes: Turner, Gibbons and Steckly were the only finishers of the 23
who started the CARQUEST 200 who completed all 200 laps. Heavy attrition
early in the event took a toll on the field. Neither of the two Maritime
racers who participated in the race fared well, as Shubenacadie, NS driver
Scott Fraser suffered carburetor trouble just 19 laps into the race and
finished 23rd, while Athoville, NB's Brad Mann came back after a mid-race
crash to finish 16th.

Next Race: The CASCAR Castrol Super Series East is back in action on July 2
for the AutoPro 150 at Autodrome Chicoutimi in Chicoutimi, Quebec. It will
be CASCAR's first visit to the facility.
