GOODYEAR QUOTE: Tony Freund, lead engineer, stock car tire development: "The introduction of Goodyear's new-generation Eagle tires to Winston Cup for road courses will take place at Sears Point this weekend. Although this particular setup is new to Winston Cup drivers, this same tire code recommendation was first used in the Craftsman Truck Series at Portland in April of this year. Early this year, however, the Cup drivers did get to run on the right side Eagles as part of the tire setup used at Martinsville. "The D-5706 tires are very similar to those is used at Watkins Glen and differ in tread compound only, not in construction. In the testing stages of this particular tire, we worked at Watkins Glen in 1999 with Mark Martin. This tire was developed at that test and slated for introduction in the 2000 season." On this weekend's race: "We expect to see good, solid racing on the Sears Point road course under typically dry, sunny conditions. However, we will have our Goodyear Eagle wet racing tires on hand ... just in case." - 0 -
