Delphi's Engine Management Systems Wins New Business
Delphi Sells More Than $350 Million in Engine Management Systems
In the First Five Months of 2000

FLINT, Mich., June 22 Delphi Automotive Systems
continues to gain strong customer acceptance for its portfolio of
engine management systems (EMS) products, recently signing contracts valued at
$350 million with three major automakers.
Engine management is the science of equipping and calibrating an engine to
achieve the cleanest possible exhaust while providing the best possible
performance, fuel consumption and driveability. Delphi has successfully
designed systems to meet increasing requirements for the control of
evaporative emissions and for integral diagnostics of the entire EMS and
emissions control systems.
"Winning this business shows Delphi's leadership in EMS and its 'building
block' approach," said Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems President Guy C.
Hachey. "This approach uses standardized software and hardware modules that
can be quickly developed to meet regional and vehicle-specific requirements.
Adding functionality is relatively simple and can be accomplished almost on a
'plug-and-play' basis. An open architecture, using standardized interfaces,
allows customers' own software and hardware to be included equally
efficiently."
Technologies offered by Delphi for advanced engine management systems
include:
    * Complete EMS solutions for gasoline direct injection (GDI) and diesel
direct injection (DDI).
    * Ion-sense glow plugs for DDI, providing closed-loop combustion control.
    * Energy control to provide EMS coordination of ancillary loads, leading
to improved fuel consumption and the possible simplification of some
electrical components to further reduce weight and cost.
    * Exhaust aftertreatment, including the unique Adcat(TM), which provides
a passive solution to the engine start-up emissions requirements proposed for
EC2005.
    * Tuned flexible injection, which replaces the traditional fuel rail
assembly with a fuel body and flexible fuel distribution lines, making it the
most flexible and easily assembled fuel delivery system on the market.
    * Multec 2 fuel injectors that provide the highly accurate fuel metering
required for compliance with Low Emission Vehicle/Ultra LEV and EC2000.
    * Bi-directional air meters to provide precise flow tracking, and hence
precise air/fuel control, even under pulsating and reverse flow conditions.
    *  Ion sensing ignition, a high-energy, coil-per-plug inductive ignition
system that uses sensing of the ion current in the combustion chamber to
detect misfire, knock and cylinder number. Cam and knock sensors can be
eliminated, knock control is improved and onboard diagnostics (OBD-2) misfire
detection can be integrated without additional components.

Multi-national Delphi Automotive Systems, with headquarters in Troy,
