Boyd, vice president and general manager - Timken Latrobe Steel Distribution. "These new product solutions combined with our extensive value-added service will provide substantial benefits to the customer while offering the company additional opportunities for profitable growth." High-performance powder metal steels are designed for applications requiring high-wear resistance in combination with high-strength properties, such as injection barrels, screws, valves and pellitizer or granulating knives. These steels provide an excellent combination of high resistance to abrasive wear and high-bend fracture strength, which make them the right choice for tools processing today's highly engineered resins. The company's ultra-clean steels are produced by vacuum arc or electro- slag remelting to achieve optimal properties for the production of plastic injection molds. These double-refined steels provide high polishability and excellent heat-treat response, which results in flawless component surfaces and tight tolerance control. The Timken Company ( http://www.timken.com ) is a leading international manufacturer of highly engineered bearings, alloy and specialty steels with operations in 24 countries. The company employs about 21,000 people worldwide and reported 1999 sales of U.S. $2.5 billion.
