TRW'S Ronald Sugar Joins Litton Industries As President And Chief Operating Officer

    CLEVELAND - TRW Inc. said today that Ronald D. Sugar, president and chief operating officer of TRW Aerospace & Information Systems, is leaving the company to become president and chief operating officer of Litton Industries, Inc.

    Sugar's departure is effective immediately, and TRW's A&IS senior operating management and staff will report directly to the TRW Chief Executive Office, consisting of Joseph T. Gorman, chairman and chief executive officer, and David M. Cote, president and chief operating officer.

    "Ron leaves an exceedingly well-managed and a highly effective organization with strong leadership. The group is known for its dedication to performance, innovation, and superior results," said Gorman. "For Ron, the Litton position is an opportunity that he felt he could not pass up. We fully understand, and he leaves with our very best wishes for his success."

    The following major A&IS units now report to the TRW Chief Executive Office:

    -- TRW Space & Electronics Group, led by Timothy W. Hannemann,
    57, executive vice president and general manager; joined TRW
    in 1969.

    -- TRW Systems & Information Technology Group, led by Donald C.
    Winter, 52, executive vice president and general manager;
    joined TRW in 1972.

    -- TRW Aeronautical Systems Group (formerly Lucas Aerospace),
    led by Ken Maciver, 60, executive vice president and general
    manager; joined TRW in 1999 from LucasVarity.

    Those units had sales in 1999 of $5.7 billion.

    Sugar is expected to be nominated to the Litton board of directors at its annual shareholders meeting in December. The company also announced he is expected to be named chief executive officer on or before December 31, 2001, putting him in line to succeed Litton Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael R. Brown.

    "In his nearly 20 years with TRW, Ron Sugar has made many significant contributions in his roles as A&IS president and chief operating officer, executive vice president and general manager of automotive electronics, and executive vice president and chief financial officer," Gorman said. "Prior to those senior management positions, Ron played major roles in TRW's advanced space communication systems business, as well as the company's military, scientific, and commercial satellite electronics programs."

    Litton, with sales of more than $5 billion, is the nation's largest builder of non-nuclear ships for the U.S. Navy, a leading information technology contractor for the U.S. Government, and a provider of defense and commercial electronics technology.

    TRW Inc., with annual sales of $17 billion, provides advanced-technology products and services for the automotive, aerospace, and information systems markets.
