American Axle & Manufacturing Presents Six Suppliers with Supplier Recognition Awards

    DETROIT - American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings, Inc. announced today its 
selection of six key suppliers to receive Year 2000 Supplier Recognition Awards.  
The awards were presented late yesterday at American Axle & Manufacturing's
seventh annual Supplier Day held at the University of Buffalo's Center for the 
Arts in Buffalo, New York.

    Genesis Systems Group, Ltd., which provides robotic flange and bracket
welding cells to AAM's Detroit Gear & Axle, Guanajuato Gear & Axle, Buffalo
Gear, Axle & Linkage and Albion Automotive.  The company was recognized for
on-site program launch support, requirement-exceeding equipment, along with
seamless equipment installation and Production Part Approval Process.

    J.S. Alberici Construction Co., Inc., which provides construction
management and general contracting along with design, build, rigging and
millwright services.  The company was recognized for its consistent on-time
and within-budget equipment installation and building construction services.

    Freudenberg-NOK General Partnership, which supplies rubber seals, gaskets,
"o-rings" and stabilizer bar boots to AAM.  The company was recognized for its
design capabilities, co-located engineering and validation support,
deadline-beating delivery and responsiveness to AAM requirements.

    Applied Industrial Technologies Corporation, which provides bearings,
belts, pulleys, gear boxes and hydraulic fittings to AAM.  The company was
recognized for outstanding performance as commodity manager of maintenance at
five AAM plants, along with 24-hour-a-day customer support, contributions
toward inventory reduction and product kitting.

    US Manufacturing Corporation, which provides AAM with axle tube machined
assemblies and axle tube spindle assemblies.  The company was recognized for
proactive prototype and design, quality and delivery performance improvements,
and the establishment of Guanajuato, Mexico site to support line-side delivery
to AAM's Guanajuato Gear & Axle facility.

    North Star Steel Company, which provides steel to AAM for the manufacture
of connecting rods, rod caps and output shafts.  The company was presented
with AAM's first-ever SCALE Award.  SCALE, which stands for Supplier Customer
Alliance Leads to Excellence, is a process developed to reduce costs through
supplier suggestion submissions.  North Star Steel was recognized for being
the first supplier to achieve -- and then exceed -- SCALE's 5 percent annual
savings objective.

    AAM's Supplier Recognition Awards have been presented annually since the
company was formed in 1994.  A team of AAM associates from Procurement,
Engineering, Manufacturing, and Materials Management selects the award winners
based on suppliers' quality, service, technology and cost-savings performance.

    "The tremendous contributions made by the award winners have greatly added
to AAM's overall success," said Roy H. Langenbach, AAM vice president,
Procurement and host of the Year 2000 Supplier Day.  "They are being
recognized as an elite tier of suppliers who have provided AAM with
exceptional services in meeting and exceeding the requirements of our
OEM customers."
