NASCAR WWEST: Woodside to Jet From Sears Point to Irwindale
22 June 2000
June 22, 2000 (Palmdale, Calif.) - Sean Woodside plans to pull double duty this weekend, when he is scheduled to compete at Sears Point Raceway Saturday afternoon in the Snap-On Tools/AAA 200 Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring event and, later that evening, in the NASCAR Winston West Home Depot 250 at Irwindale Speedway. Saturday afternoon, Woodside and REF Motorsports will be looking to strengthen their 5th place in the current point standings at Sears Point Raceway in the 64-lap Southwest Series event. This isn't the first time Woodside has competed at Sears Point in a Southwest Series car, but his best performance s, a pair of second-place finishes, have been in Winston West cars. REF Motorsports brings two strong 4th place finishes in the Southwest Series event at Sears Point to the effort. As soon as the Southwest Series race is complete, Woodside will jet from San Francisco to Los Angeles and head to Irwindale Speedway, where he will race a Winston West car for the first time since he clinched the 1999 Winston West championship at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan. After two consecutive runner-up finishes in the 1997 and 1998 Winston West point standings, Woodside took hold of the lead in the 1999 championship race in the 9th of 14 events, and never let go. Woodside commented, "I first have to thank Bob Farmer, REF Motorsports, Team Walker Motorsports and Brad Miller for the group effort in making this happen. There was a lot to coordinate, but we managed, and we're all hoping for success in both races." Brad Miller, whose son, Brandon, will compete in Saturday's Super Late Model race at Irwindale, is providing transportation from Sears Point to Irwindale via his corporate jet. "The tests at Sears Point in the Southwest car several weeks ago were very good, and I also tested well at Irwindale in the Winston West car. The Sears Point test was fun, because we were on the track with the Cup cars, and got to play a little bit with them," Woodside continued. "Seriously, we all have the same goal this weekend, which is to win." "This is going to be an exciting weekend," said Bob Farmer, owner of REF Motorsports. "Both teams want to win, of course, and everyone involved will be concentrating to make this a good experience for all of us." Saturday's Snap-On Tools/AAA 200 will be broadcast live by ESPN2 beginning at 3:30 p.m. EDT. The Home Depot 250 will be broadcast by Speedvision tape-delayed on July 15, 2000 at 8:00 p.m. EDT and, again, on July 17, 2000 at 2:00 EDT. The team is currently 5th in the point standings in the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring, with one win, two top five and three top ten finishes.
