Ceradyne Inc. to Present Technical Paper on Low-Cost Automotive Ceramic Applications at June 19-21 International Symposium

    COSTA MESA, Calif. Ceradyne Inc. today announced that Biljana Mikijelj, Ph.D., a key scientist at Ceradyne's research and development facility, will present a technical paper at the 7th International Symposium, Ceramic Materials and Components for Engines, being held in Goslar, Germany.

    At this gathering of ceramic experts from around the world, Dr. Mikijelj will discuss a manufacturing process, which significantly reduces the cost barrier to using ceramics in automotive engines to improve fuel economy and reduce pollutant emissions. Representatives from major automakers will also be in attendance.

    Dr. Mikijelj's presentation, "SRBSN Material Development for Automotive Applications," describes how sintered reaction bonded silicon nitride ("SRBSN"), a high-performance ceramic with superior wear-resistant properties, can be manufactured at significantly lower cost, compared with conventional processes, without compromising reliability, making it suitable for automotive engine component applications.
