Johnson Controls Recognized by DaimlerChrysler Corporation For Outstanding Supplier Performance

Leading automotive supplier earns two Commodity Awards and 10 Gold Awards

    PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Recognizing its world-class supplier performance in 1999, 
Johnson Controls, Inc. has earned two 1999 DaimlerChrysler Commodity Awards -- 
for its interior and battery businesses -- and an impressive 10 Gold Awards.

commitment to providing superior automotive interior systems and batteries,"
said Rande Somma, president of North America for Johnson Controls. "As a
global market leader, we are committed to continuously anticipating, meeting
and exceeding our customers' ever-changing needs."

    The Commodity Award, formerly known as the Platinum Pentastar Award, is
given to divisions of top suppliers that demonstrate exceptional performance
within a commodity. Johnson Controls was the only Commodity Award winner in
the interiors category and one of three award winners in the
electrical/electronic category.

    The Gold Award, formerly known as the Gold Pentastar Award, is given to
specific supplier locations in three main categories -- production, non-
production and logistics. Ten Johnson Controls locations were singled out for
going above and beyond the expected work they perform for DaimlerChrysler.

    Both Commodity and Gold Awards are based upon excelling in various
criteria, including quality, timely delivery, cost reductions and
environmental regulatory compliance, as well as receiving a recommendation
from the various DaimlerChrysler representatives who work with Johnson
Controls.

    The Plymouth, Michigan (U.S.A.)-based automotive business of Johnson
Controls -- which employs more than 65,000 people at 275 facilities worldwide
-- achieved US$12.1 billion in sales for the 1999 fiscal year. In model-year
2000, it will supply interior products for more than 23 million vehicles.
