CON-WAY Sending At Least 30 Drivers to National Truck Driving Championship in New Orleans

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--June 16, 2000--More than half way through the "World Series" of the state-level truck driving championships, Con-Way Transportation Services (CON-WAY) has earned 30 first-place finishes. This translates into CON-WAY sending 30 company driver sales representatives to New Orleans August 9-12 to compete in the 2000 National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC). State-level championships are held every weekend beginning in early April and concluding in July. Last year, CON-WAY sent more state champions, 46, to the national competition than any other trucking company in the country.
The American Trucking Associations (ATA) sponsors the annual NTDC. The event promotes highway safety and spotlights driver talent, professionalism and dedication to safe vehicle operation. Drivers qualify for the nationals by winning on the state level in one of nine equipment classes. Competition is based on skill, industry knowledge, equipment, policy, practice, and safety regulation knowledge.
CON-WAY's current roster of winning drivers includes: Jose Orozco (Tucson, AZ); Ina Daly (Phoenix, AZ); Clyde Jennings (Jackson, MS); Ken Darling (Sioux Falls, SD); Larry Akers (Wheeling, WV); Eddie Coulbourn (Seaford, DE); James Denson (Seaford, DE); David Dorminey (Dothan, AL); Don Elliott (Birmingham, AL); Dennis Day (Norcross, GA); Jerry Birmingham (Columbus, GA); Leroy Williams (Baton Rouge, LA); Scottie Thomas (Charlotte, NC); Terry Certain (Nashville, TN); Thomas Sullivan (Manchester, NH); David Schraub (Indianapolis, IN); Steve Gordon (Indianapolis, IN); Mark Serf (Muncie, IN); Wayne Cloverdale (Fort Wayne, IN); Dennis Rafferty (Rockford, IL); David James (Rock Falls, IL); Russ Martin (Rolla, MO); John Sanders (St. Louis, MO); Larry Murphy (Oklahoma City, OK); Roger Williams (Oklahoma City, OK); Jeff Benson (Abilene, KS); Gary Loveday (Jessup, MD); Tom Clayton (Providence, RI); Dale Duncan (Chula Vista, CA); and Emilio Cavazus (Fresno, CA). Company officials expect more state winners during the next two months.
