Formula One: Schumacher to drive: BMW Williams F1 Montreal GP
16 June 2000
RALF SCHUMACHER WILL DRIVE 15th June 2000 Good news for the BMW WilliamsF1 Team: after his injury in an accident during the Monaco Grand Prix, Ralf Schumacher feels fit enough to enter the Canadian Grand Prix. Eleven days ago in Monte Carlo, the German driver clashed violently against the barrier on the 38th lap at the Ste Devote comer and he sustained an 8 cm wound, which required stitches. Just In case Ralf's positive prognosis proves too optimistic, the team's test driver Bruno Junqueira is ready to race in Montreal. The FIA F1 World Championship regulations allow a change of driver - if agreed by the Race Stewards - at the latest before the qualifying session. Ralf Schumacher "Last week I re-started my fitness training and I feel fine. The wound is healing okay even though I still feel a bit of pain when loading the leg, of course. I don't expect to have any problem in free practice, as we won't run too much. I hope the same also applies for the race. Usually I brake with my left foot, but if necessary I can also use my right foot. In order to reduce the vibration, we will stick some padding in the cockpit, where the heel is."
