16 June 2000
DUBLIN, Ohio (June 15, 2000) - The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) returns to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, for the Sprint Vintage Grand Prix, June 23-25. This is the fourth event on the 2000 SVRA schedule. The Sprint Vintage Grand Prix is a three-day celebration of historic road racing and classic automobiles. Over 300 machines will compete on the 2.4-mile, 15-turn road course in 10 SVRA group races. Additionally, there will be a Historic Stock Car Racing Group race, an All-BMW race and an MG versus Triumph race. To complement the racing, there is a variety of off-track activities including four car shows on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, June 24, will have an all-British feel for a second consecutive year. The second annual British Car Showdown car show will feature British automobiles such as Aston Martin, Austin Healey, Jaguar, Lotus, MG, Morgan, Morris, Rolls Royce, Rover, Triumph and others. More than 25 awards will be presented in the popular vote car show. Over 250 British car owners from across the country participated in last year's inaugural show. A British Swap Meet, held both Saturday and Sunday, will give British car enthusiasts the opportunity to buy, sell and trade parts and merchandise. An MG versus Triumph challenge highlights the day's on-track action as Triumph attempts to defend its British crown title. Fans will see familiar stock cars in their original NASCAR paint schemes battle each other on Sunday, June 25, as the popular Historic Stock Car Racing Group returns to Mid-Ohio for a second consecutive year. All machines are former NASCAR rides that have been driven by some of the world's most well-known stock car drivers. There will also be a strong SVRA presence, as over five decades of automobile racing history will be represented in 10 SVRA feature races. An Enduro race rounds out the weekend action, giving fans a total of 12 Sunday races. Sunday is also the annual Concours d'Elegance. This car show is open to all marques and models, regardless of variety. However, in keeping with Mid-Ohio's tradition of highlighting one marque for the Concours d'Elegance, BMW will be showcased in an All-BMW car show and an All-BMW race. The All-BMW car show is sponsored by the BMW Car Club of America. Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is a 2.4-mile, 15-turn permanent road course located in Lexington, Ohio, 60 miles north of Columbus and 75 miles south of Cleveland. Commonly referred to as the "Most Competitive in the U.S.," Mid-Ohio hosts six major motorsports events in 2000, including amateur, professional and international racing of the two- and four-wheel variety.
