American Standard Appoints Shelly London Vice President of Communications

    PISCATAWAY, N.J. - American Standard Companies Inc. today announced the 
appointment of Shelly J. London as Vice President of Communications, effective 
July 1.  Ms. London will be responsible for the Company's internal and external 
communications globally.  She will report to Frederic M. Poses, Chairman and 
Chief Executive Officer of American Standard.

    Ms. London joins American Standard after more than 18 years with AT&T.
She most recently served as Senior Vice President of Communications for
Concert, a $7 billion global communications company formed by AT&T and British
Telecom.  At Concert, she led media and industry analyst relations,
advertising, marketing communications, employee communications and
philanthropy.  Prior to Concert, Ms. London held a variety of positions at
AT&T in sales, marketing and public relations.

    "Effective communication, both internal and external, will play a vital
role in American Standard," said Fred Poses.  "Shelly London brings an
impressive track record of achievement in a complex, rapidly changing
industry.  Her sales, marketing and public relations experience will help our
company and our businesses develop comprehensive strategies for e-business
applications, media relations and employee communications."

    Ms. London received a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism, graduating
with highest distinction from the University of Kansas, where she also earned
an MBA.

    American Standard is a global provider of a broad range of products and
services.  Those products include Trane(R) heating and air conditioning
systems; American Standard(R) and Ideal Standard(R) kitchen and bathroom
products; and WABCO(R) vehicle braking and control systems.
