Con-Way Transportation Services Promotes Three to New Positions

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Con-Way Transportation Services has promoted three employees who are located at the headquarters office. Dr. Yafeng Du has been named director of decision technology, Dan Wheeler promoted to director of property development, and Dan Egeler elevated to the position of senior legal counsel.

CON-WAY provides transportation services to more than 400,000 commercial shippers throughout the continental U.S., eight Canadian provinces, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Services include day-definite less-than-truckload, truckload, time-definite, emergency-expedite, warehousing and logistics services.

Dr. Du, a leading developer of systems applications in the field of intelligent systems engineering, joined CON-WAY in 1997 as manager of decision technology. As director of decision technology, his responsibilities include leading all initiatives in industrial engineering projects for CON-WAY's six operating companies. He received his undergraduate degree from Zhengzhou Institute of Technology in China. He holds masters and doctorate degrees in industrial engineering from the University of California at Berkeley. "Yafeng's development of simulation and optimization models allows us to make better decisions in shorter windows of time with greater amounts of data. This has resulted in increased operating efficiencies, improved service for our customers and an improved ability by the company to manage very complex systems," said Doug Stotlar, executive vice president, operations for CON-WAY.

As director of property development, Wheeler will continue to manage all facility renovations, expansions and new construction. "Our continuing business growth and commitment to surpassing our own performance standards necessitates the constant refurbishing of service locations and new construction. Dan has streamlined the construction process to such an extent that construction time has been reduced by 40 percent and quality has also improved. That's quite an accomplishment considering the enormity of our operations," said Stotlar.

Wheeler joined CON-WAY in 1998 from Bechtel Corporation where he was a senior construction engineer. He received his undergraduate degree in construction management from California State University at Chico.

Dan Egeler, as senior counsel, will be the senior staff attorney handling real estate purchases and lease transactions; transportation contracts, software licenses and other commercial contract reviews; litigation management; and personnel matters.

"Dan assumed a positive leadership position within the company almost immediately upon hire," said Scott Engers, vice president, corporate counsel. "His professional acumen has made a strong contribution to CON-WAY's growth," added Engers.

Prior to joining CON-WAY in 1998, Egeler was in private practice and specialized in litigation, real estate law and employment matters. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the American Bar Association, and the Washtenaw County Bar Association. He received a bachelors degree in political science from the University of Michigan and his law degree from the University of Detroit School of Law.
