MTS Announces Revolutionary Technology for Virtual Prototype SimulationEDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. - MTS Systems Corporation announced today the first sales of Component Empirical Dynamics(TM) Models (EDM(TM)), a revolutionary tool for use in new vehicle development. Empirical Dynamics models are fast, high accuracy software models, generated by combining physical laboratory measurements with neural network technology. Coupled with ADAMS(R) virtual prototyping software, vehicle design engineers can now accurately assess vehicle performance and durability much earlier in the design process. First copies of the new software have been purchased by two international vehicle makers, and a major worldwide supplier of automotive components. "Empirical Dynamics Modeling represents our next step in bringing together virtual and physical design evaluation for our customers," said Sidney W. Emery, Jr., MTS Chairman and CEO. "This is an entirely new revenue stream for MTS, the first of several new software tools resulting from our strategic alliance with Mechanical Dynamics, Inc. (MDI). EDM combines MTS's expertise in mechanical testing and mathematical simulation with MDI's strength in virtual prototyping. These products will be jointly distributed by MTS and MDI sales channels worldwide." MTS Systems Corporation manufactures computer-based testing and simulation systems for determining the mechanical behavior of materials, products, and structures, and measurement and control instrumentation products for the automation and manufacturing processes. The corporation had 2,400 employees worldwide and revenues of $390 million in the fiscal year ending September, 1999.
