Volvo Offers Free Booster Seat With Every New V70 Purchase
15 June 2000
ROCKLEIGH, N.J. - Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. announced today it will offer one free booster seat to each customer who purchases a new 2001 Volvo V70 in the United States. This action is part of Ford Motor Company's Boost America! Initiative, the largest child safety program in automotive history. Boost America! focuses on children between the ages of four and eight who have outgrown child safety seats, but who are still too small to fit properly and safely in standard seats. The Volvo booster cushion is designed to help many of those children effectively and comfortably use the standard three-point seat belts at all seating positions in every Volvo. Specifically, the seat is designed for children weighing 33-80 pounds and standing 38-54 in. tall. It currently retails for $68.75. By June, announcement letters will be sent to every current 2001 V70 owner in the United States. Letters will continuously be sent to 2001 V70 owners upon purchase through the end of the year. The letter will include a postage-paid reply which, when returned to VCNA, will result in a booster seat being delivered directly to the address listed on the response. This offer is transferable. The Volvo booster seat is designed to fit in all Volvos and other vehicles. Volvo retailers will not be involved in the transaction, but they will be encouraged to inform customers of the program and answer questions about the booster seat. Volvo expects to sell approximately 20,000 2001 V70s during 2000. "We hope this helps raise awareness for the importance of seat belts and particularly their proper use by some of our most precious passengers," remarks by Mark LaNeve, Vice President Marketing and Network of Volvo Cars of North America. According to NHTSA, a child under 80 pounds is almost always too small for an adult seat belt. As the name suggests, a booster seat raises the child in the seat, filling the size gap so the seat belts fit properly and helps protect the child. The Boost America! Initiative is an investment of over $15 million being spent to provide free booster seats, raise awareness, and otherwise address this important issue.
