Mazda to Revise Model Line in 2002
12 June 2000
Japan - By 2002 Mazda Motor Corporation is planning on introducing significant changes in it's line up for both the domestic Japanese market and in foreign markets. The changes will affect, among others, its small Demio car, with the successor model (the Tribute) sharing some Ford chassis, engine, and transmission elements. Ford, who owns a third of Mazda, is exerting major influence over the operational fortunes of the Japanese automaker. While fellow country auto giants Toyota, Honda, and Nissan are able to launch new vehicles every month or two, Mazda has not been in that position, and have to attack the market in a different manner. Mazda has to be more will selective about where they can pick their fights and to leverage its relationship with Ford. MJR
